I'm fundraising in aid of Sands, for every much-loved baby sadly not here today, and in memory of our baby Jack, who was born still in October 2024.

So many people are affected by baby loss, whether through miscarriage, stillbirthor newborn, and often suffer in silence or with little support. It is hard to express the sorrow, guilt, shame and myriad of feelings that can accompany losing a baby. It's something my wife and I carry with us every day. We were lucky to receive the support of a specially trained midwife and grief counsellor in the aftermath of our miscarriage  which enabled us to spend time with Jack, make some memories and begin to grieve for him. We look back now and realise how important this was to us.

I'm doing Race to the King, a 100km ultra challenge, and aiming to complete in under 12 hours having trained throughout the winter and spring. Many of you will know I am a runner - but this is twice the distance I have ever completed in one day. It's a chance for me to reflect on my feelings, remember Jack, and hopefully make a difference to others in similar situations to ours.

Sands ensure that everyone affected by the loss of a baby gets the support they need and deserve when facing the toughest of times. They campaign for change, provide training for midwives and healthcare professionals, and support research so that fewer babies die and so that less families experience the tragedy of losing their baby. Anything you are able to donate means so much.

Thank you.
