I’m walking 100K in September for families facing baby loss
I’ve committed to walking 100K in September for every much-loved baby sadly not here today.
Sands ensure that everyone affected by the loss of a baby gets the support they need and deserve when facing the toughest of times. They campaign for change, provide training for midwives and healthcare professionals, and support research so that fewer babies die and so that less families experience the tragedy of losing their baby. Anything you are able to donate means so much.
Thank you.

My Updates

Hugo George 🤍
Monday 11th AugThose who have followed my pregnancy journey will know that it hasn’t been easy.
At 18 weeks, my waters broke, and after being asked numerous times by different people if we had thought about termination, my wife and I wanted to give our son a fighting chance - after all, where there’s a heartbeat, there’s hope!
After this, we had weekly scans, hoping to see increases in fluid, but unfortunately, this didn’t happen.
At 23 weeks, we had an appointment with the fetal medicine team and had everything in place with the NICU team for when he arrived.
I was told I would need to deliver by 34 weeks due to them discovering Group B Strep - we were okay with this, as originally it had been planned for 37 weeks due to my waters breaking early.
With each passing week, we felt more positive, as we were a week closer to the end, and we were so proud of our little boy for fighting so hard to be with us. Each week, his scan would show his heartbeat at around 150 bpm.
At 26 weeks, we started twice-weekly CTGs. Due to his gestation, movement, and occasional dips in his heartbeat, it was often difficult to meet the criteria, meaning the appointments took longer than planned. In some cases, I was kept in hospital or sent to a hospital with a NICU, as they were concerned about possible cord compression.
At 28 weeks, I had a scan on the Monday, which was fine, with his heartbeat at 152 bpm. I saw my community midwife on Tuesday morning and listened to his heartbeat again. Then, at 9:30 pm on 29th July 2025, I felt pain, so we went to the hospital.
When we arrived, I was 5–6 cm dilated. They had his heartbeat on the CTG at 152 bpm, but within the time it took to transfer me from one room to another and get us back on the CTG, his heartbeat was gone. After speaking to the midwives, the time frame was just 3–4 minutes.
Thank you to the RVI midwives for caring for myself, my wife Lauren and our beautiful boy Hugo!
We’ve been left broken-hearted and so empty.
Our beautiful boy, Hugo George, was just too precious for this cruel world we live in.
