Why I’m Doing The Sands “2k Per Day”
Tuesday 30th DecThis New Year’s Day will mark 1 month since I found out I’d experienced a miscarriage. The month of December is usually my favourite time of year but this year felt a little different.
Instead of the Christmas markets I recovered from MVA surgery, instead of collecting a tree from our local tree farm we ordered an artificial one online. Instead of Christmas shopping I researched miscarriage statistics and information.
Our home still feels festive and has more than ever become a sanctuary of safety and love. But much has been different, joy was initially replaced with grief, plans were replaced with confusion, social events were a source of anxiety. Much of that has moved forward for us now, and we leave 2025 feeling more “normal” than we have for much of the last month. Our family and friends have been essential in supporting us to make the right choices for us and in holding us tightly when we needed support.
And now we’re in this period between Christmas and New Year, when the festivities are coming to a close and we start to think about the year ahead. 2026 will look very different for us now but one thing I’m certain on… I need to start 2026 by doing something positive.
That’s why, this January I’ve signed up to complete the Sands “2k per day” challenge. During January I will restart my long lost love of running by running 2km per day. Going from 0 to 14km per week will be a challenge for me, but something I’m really excited and determined to achieve in the name of this fantastic charity - who provide support to people experiencing baby and pregnancy loss.
