I’m running 2k a day in January for families facing baby loss

I’ve committed to running 2k a day this January for every much-loved baby sadly not here today.

Sands ensure that everyone affected by the loss of a baby gets the support they need and deserve when facing the toughest of times. They campaign for change, provide training for midwives and healthcare professionals, and support research so that fewer babies die and so that less families experience the tragedy of losing their baby. Anything you are able to donate means so much.

Thank you.

Finding Strength in Slowness

Tuesday 16th Dec
If you know me, you know I hate running. I’ve always thought of it as punishment rather than pleasure. But at the end of this year, something shifted—I joined a running club. Not just any club, but The Slow As Fork Running Club. And to my surprise, it’s teaching me a new way of moving: slower, gentler, and actually enjoyable.

What makes this club different isn’t just the pace—it’s the people. The creator of the club has lived through unimaginable loss, the kind of grief my mum also endured. Both experienced the heartbreak of losing a child. I can’t pretend to comprehend their trauma, but I can imagine, and I can empathise, with how devastating it must have been.

For me, this story is personal. My oldest brother was born sleeping 50 years ago. My parents never got to hold him, never got to see him. They were charged for a coffin, and for decades they didn’t even know where he was buried. It wasn’t until 25 years ago that they discovered he had been laid to rest with others in an unmarked grave—a place that can never be marked with a headstone.

The differences between then and now are stark. Today, parents are offered compassion, memory‑making, and recognition of their child’s existence. Back then, silence and bureaucracy compounded the grief. The heartbreak of those parents, including mine, is something that lingers across generations.

And so, as I run—slowly, steadily, with this club—I carry that history with me. Running has become more than exercise; it’s a way of honouring resilience, of moving through pain at a pace that feels human.

That’s why in January I’ll be running 2k every single day to raise money for Sands, the charity that supports anyone affected by the death of a baby. It feels like the right way to channel both my personal story and the lessons I’m learning about slowness, strength, and community.

If you’d like to support, cheer me on, or simply share awareness of Sands, you’ll be helping to ensure that no parent has to face this kind of loss alone.
