I’m running 2k a day in January for families facing baby loss

I’ve committed to running 2k a day this January for every much-loved baby sadly not here today.

Sands ensure that everyone affected by the loss of a baby gets the support they need and deserve when facing the toughest of times. They campaign for change, provide training for midwives and healthcare professionals, and support research so that fewer babies die and so that less families experience the tragedy of losing their baby. Anything you are able to donate means so much.

In memory of our baby, Blue 🤍

On 19th November 2024, our hearts were broken when our 12 week scan revealed our baby’s heart had stopped beating. 

We already had a three year old daughter who knew I was pregnant and was excited at the prospect of becoming a big sister. We had seen our baby at an early private scan a few weeks before so having to tell our little girl that this baby was no longer making it earth side broke our hearts even more, whilst trying to navigate our way through our own grief. All we had to hand her was a teddy bear, who she named Blue. 

The process of a ‘medical management of miscarriage’ was pretty brutal and not something I had ever really thought about or considered other women having to go through. It was a soul destroying time and something that will stay with me forever. All of those hopes and dreams we had for that little baby from the moment we seen those two lines were shattered in an instant. The mental torture that followed for weeks was devastating; questioning everything, the stress we both had at work; the fast pace of our lives; the flight I had been on when I was 8 weeks and the pink steak I had eaten at 5 weeks… was it any of that? I know now that it wasn’t and sadly we are just another statistic; 1 in 4. This happens to 1 family in every 4 who are expecting a baby- a heartbreaking fact. 

I felt very alone, I felt lucky to have my beautiful girl who kept me going but I felt devastated that we had lost our baby, along with all of those dreams we had. We never knew the gender, but in our hearts, we feel we did know. Our baby was ever so beautifully known as Blue and we have a miscarriage certificate with that name in their memory and forever we will remember our baby, Blue Barry. 

We believe that our angel baby sent our baby boy to us just a few months later. We have been so blessed with our rainbow baby boy and we thank God every day because we know this outcome isn’t the same for everyone.

So, in memory of our Blue, and for all the women who go through that horrible process and their families who go through it with them, I am running 2K every day in January to raise money for this wonderful charity. I am lucky, I will be running 2K every day whilst pushing a pram with my healthy boy and I am blessed.
