Why I’m Taking On the 2k a Day Challenge for Sands

Hello — and thank you for reading this.

I’m taking on a personal challenge in January — running 2 km every single day — to raise vital funds for Sands, a charity that means so much to me.

Sands is dedicated to saving babies’ lives and supporting bereaved families when the unthinkable happens. They offer compassion, understanding and practical help to anyone affected by the loss of a baby during pregnancy or after birth, including free support services, helplines, support groups and resources to help families navigate grief. 

I know firsthand just how devastating this loss can be. I have experienced multiple miscarriages, and this year I also faced a third IVF cycle that didn’t work. For so long I was desperate to become a parent — and now, at 44, it very likely won’t happen the way I dreamed.

That deep, aching heartbreak is something so many parents know all too well — and it’s something that Sands supports families through every day.

Why Your Support Matters

Every step I run in January will be for every much-loved baby who isn’t here today. But this challenge is more than just running — it’s about:

✨ Helping bereaved parents feel less alone

✨ Providing support when it’s needed most — through the Sands Helpline, peer groups, and online community

✨ Funding research and training so maternity care and bereavement support continue to improve

✨ Giving memory boxes, resources and comfort to families who have lost their baby

Your donations — even a little — make a real difference. For example:

🌼 Just £25 could provide a bereaved family with a memory box to keep their baby’s special moments close.

📞 £75 might answer two calls from parents reaching out for support at their darkest moment.

📚 £50 could give bereaved families support books and information when they need it most.
