I’m walking 100K in March for families facing baby loss

I’ve committed to walking 100K in March for every much-loved baby sadly not here today.

Sands ensure that everyone affected by the loss of a baby gets the support they need and deserve when facing the toughest of times. They campaign for change, provide training for midwives and healthcare professionals, and support research so that fewer babies die and so that less families experience the tragedy of losing their baby. Anything you are able to donate means so much.

Thank you.

Rudi’s story.

Saturday 15th Feb
Hello everyone,

I have just joined this group so first time poster here, but it’s been 4 years and I think it’s time for me to grieve for my boy.

October 23rd, 2020 I was cooking dinner for my family and all of a sudden I felt what was like a babies head between my legs, so I ran to the toilet and it was a gigantic blood clot (bigger than a tennis ball), in panic and fear my partner phoned the maternity hospital who reassured me not to worry and keep an eye on things, so I went and lay down and all of a sudden it happened again… another blood clot this time slightly bigger than the last. Phoned the hospital again and they wanted me in but to take the blood clots with me.

I went to the hospital as quickly as I possibly could just thinking nothing but the worst. They scanned me and said everything was fine… little did they know.
They sent me on my way home, and told me to back if anything else… so around the same time on the 24th I was cooking dinner again, and I felt this massive gush of liquid - at that moment I knew it wasn’t good.
I phoned the maternity hospital again and explained what happened (still passing blood clots just not as big)… they wanted me in again.
This time they put me into triage with all the mums in labour and hearing them just really made my heart hurt because I just knew I wasn’t making it that far.
I was right, they scanned me and told me my waters had broke, but there was still a heartbeat.

I was sent into the SANDS unit because we knew what was coming next, and i appreciate them putting me there because it was just so lovely and calm compared to what was going on inside my head.
I was then explained what was going on, what my choices were and what was coming next…
I didn’t want my baby to suffer so I chose to have an ‘induced miscarriage’ rather than him coming at his own time… it just seemed the less traumatic option.

Roll onto 26th… that was the day I knew I’d meet my baby. In the morning I was given pills and pain medication and then another lot of pills afterwards… at 13:04 my baby was born, but silent… he was taken away straight away so I couldn’t see him… but after some time the amazing nurses had him ready and told me I had my first Son.
We told all of our loved ones that he was born and that we were just preparing ourselves to see him.

After some time we finally got asked if we were ready to see him… of course we were 🤍

He arrived and he was perfect, in every single way… all 110g of him. He was just so tiny, he was smiling and he was just a mini version of his daddy sleeping.
Over the next few days we had to plan his funeral and get things in order. We had him blessed by the priest, it was during Covid peak so only my mum got in to meet him unfortunately and it was truly the most heartbreaking time of my life.

On the 4th of November 2020 we said our final goodbyes to our perfect baby boy,
🤍🤍Rudi Gordon Stephen Alan Naismith 🤍🤍
His funeral was so sweet and just delicate like him.

I finally got my baby home with me forever but life has just never been the same since. I celebrate his birthdays and send balloons and cards upto him…

So long story short, I lost my perfect baby Rudi at 16+1 weeks due to a subchronic haematoma🥺 every day I blame myself for what could’ve been, what should’ve been…

I love you my boy.
