I’m running 2k a day in January for families facing baby loss

I’ve committed to running 2k a day this January for every much-loved baby sadly not here today.

Sands ensure that everyone affected by the loss of a baby gets the support they need and deserve when facing the toughest of times. They campaign for change, provide training for midwives and healthcare professionals, and support research so that fewer babies die and so that less families experience the tragedy of losing their baby. Anything you are able to donate means so much.

Thank you.

31 days of showing up, of movement, of remembering and honouring the babies who never got to come home. They are all so loved 🩵🧡

The dreaded winter virus…

Saturday 24th Jan
The last week has been pretty rough, I started feeling a bit viral last weekend and steadily went downhill. My chest burns, I’ve lost my voice and all my strength/energy. One evening I was so weak and woozy that (foolishly) I thought I could still attempt my run - even though I hadn’t eaten and could barely breathe. Mistake! I fell off my treadmill, thankfully during my warm up. I don’t want to let Sands (or myself) down so I’ve been doing slower walks daily. My cat is taking her role as nurse very seriously and is really enjoying the additional cuddles with me resting so much!

Longest run yet!

Sunday 11th Jan
Over 2 miles tackled today and feeling stronger every day…

One week done ✔️

Thursday 8th Jan
One week into this challenge and my legs are hurting! I’m also struggling with a resurgence of endometriosis symptoms and pain, the running increasing pressure on my pelvis is definitely not helping … but I’m determined to push through the discomfort because nothing compares to the pain and heartbreak of losing a baby.

This cause is deeply, deeply personal to me - before I was lucky enough to safely deliver my son in 2021, I had 5 miscarriages. Three of those were ‘missed’ miscarriages, where your body doesn’t recognise the loss and continues behaving/developing as though you’re still pregnant. Nothing can ever prepare you for the silence that falls in the room when that happens. It’s just… awful. I carry the pain and (I know this word is used a lot but I say this genuinely) trauma of those losses with me everyday.

Anything I can do now to help charities like Sands help anyone facing baby loss is a worthy channel for my pain and grief.

First run done

Friday 2nd Jan
First of January, first 2k done ☑️ It was a hard slog - I haven’t ran consistently since I trained for the Sands Ribbon Run in October 2023!

This is such a worthy cause to support and an opportunity to push myself out of my comfort zone at the same time 💙🧡

Am I fit enough to do this?
