I’ve committed to running 2k a day this January for every much-loved baby sadly not here today.
Ruben Reign Albutt 23.01.2020
Thursday 1st Jan
In January 2020, we lost our little boy Ruben Reign. I had been calling the local hospital for around 4 days telling them that his movements had reduced and i felt something wasn't right but they advised me that there was no need to go in as i was only 6 months pregnant. At this point, i could still hear his heartbeat on my home doppler, but by the 21st January, this was gone. I spent the whole night crying trying to find his little heartbeat, waking my Husband up in the middle of the night and i just knew! Everyone assured me i was being silly so instead of going to work the next day, i went to the hospital, they left my sat in triage for 45 minutes and took me into a room with 4 bed bays, with all other women listening to their babies heartbeats. The nurse dopplered me, and felt she heard a heart beat (this turned out to be my own) and off she went to get a portable scanning machine. She put the jelly on my belly and i saw it. My lifeless baby upside down, with a black hole where his little heart had once beaten before. I lay in silence and waited for the words to come out of her mouth "i'm sorry, there is no heart beat". I dropped to the floor and screamed over and over again! i rang my Husband, and its a blur but apparently i was screaming "he's gone, he's gone!" and i felt like after this i went into shock. The next thing i remember is being handed post mortem forms, and being told that i'd have to deliver him the next due to my issues with previous haemorrhaging and complications. My heart broke that day, the person who i was before that day, left and has never come back. The following day i gave birth to a silent but perfectly formed baby boy and he was placed into a cold cot and stayed with me for 5 days as the trauma of this all made me incredibly unwell.
(Sands ensure that everyone affected by the loss of a baby gets the support they need and deserve when facing the toughest of times. They campaign for change, provide training for midwives and healthcare professionals, and support research so that fewer babies die and so that less families experience the tragedy of losing their baby. Anything you are able to donate means so much.
Thank you.)
