I’m running 2k a day in January for families facing baby loss

I’ve committed to running 2k a day this January for every much-loved baby sadly not here today.

Those that know me will know that this is something personal to me, I have come to realise loss happens too often and raising awareness to others is just the first step.

Sands ensure that everyone affected by the loss of a baby gets the support they need and deserve when facing the toughest of times. They campaign for change, provide training for midwives and healthcare professionals, and support research so that fewer babies die and so that less families experience the tragedy of losing their baby.

Any donation no matter how small will help shape the future for the better and to also support families unfortunately suffering loss.

Thank you.

5k complete. I want to thank everyone who has sponsored me your donations kept me going through the month. This challenge has not only allowed me to raise money for a great charity close to my heart but it has also gave me mental strength to carry on and made me a stronger person for it. Do I now love running ? No ...but I have understood the great benefits to the mind it brings so I won't be hanging up the trainers just yet

Remember just because 'its common' which is what I get told all the time this is not a helpful or comforting statement to make. We shouldnt have to accept that so many families experience loss and lose their much dreamt of family just because it's common. By raising money and providing this for research we can help prevent this being so 'common' in the future.

Biggest motivation throughout this challenge is knowing this may prevent one family in the future from going through the heartache and pain that I have endured.

Running was not an option today due to the snow so I had to settle for 15 mins on the bike instead.

Strava failed me today but thankfully my Fitbit picked up the run a short while after starting hence why it shows slightly less then 2k.

I hear all to often 'miscarriage is common' yes it might happen to a lot more families then we realise, but does that make it right? Does that make it acceptable? Does that make it easier for the family who have suffered multiple losses? The answer is no, so why should we accept it's 'common' like it's normal. With the help of charities like Sands they providing research hoping that one day loss will one day be less 'common'.

Another treadmill day today. £25 provides families with memory boxes to help them make special memories with their baby. Sands provide these to hospitals for parents to ensure the memory of their lost baby lives on, these are more precious to families then you may realise.

Thank you to everyone that has donated so far I truly appreciate it, just to keep you updated on what the money raised so far can do and how much of a difference it can make to families.

£200 is enough to provide a full day of bereavement care training for midwives and healthcare professionals, making sure they can offer the best possible care to vulnerable families facing the worst of tragedies.
