I’m running 2k a day in January for families facing baby loss

I’ve committed to running 2k a day this January for every much-loved baby sadly not here today.

Sands ensure that everyone affected by the loss of a baby gets the support they need and deserve when facing the toughest of times. They campaign for change, provide training for midwives and healthcare professionals, and support research so that fewer babies die and so that less families experience the tragedy of losing their baby. Anything you are able to donate means so much.

Thank you.

My Updates

Challenge completed!

Saturday 31st Jan
Final January update:

2 km run every day (woohoo!)

Total running: 119.2 km
Total walking: 19.3 km

Progress wheel total (159 km) includes early start runs from end of December.

It has been tough but also so rewarding. I hope to keep this new habit going. I'm really enjoying running again and a lot of dog walks have turned into dog runs! So pleased for all the support and for raising some money for a good cause.

Day 31

Saturday 31st Jan
5km run completed! I ran with someone doing their very first park run today which is always nice. Very proud of Sophie (and Vinnie) and me completing this January challenge of 2km a day. Might just keep this up, y'know!

Day 31

Saturday 31st Jan
Run number 2. A little left in the tank so Sky and I had a little 3k run.

Day 30

Friday 30th Jan
Penultimate day! 2 km in 11 minutes.

Day 29

Thursday 29th Jan
Tired legs so took it easy, though couldn't help but add a sprint finish for the final 500m as the running playlist selected Beastie Boys' Intergalactic.

Day 28

Wednesday 28th Jan
A quick one before badminton.

Day 27

Tuesday 27th Jan
Played a lot of badminton tonight - more than planned - and as I hadn't done the run beforehand, because I had a lovely nap instead, it meant doing the run late at night after 4 hours of badminton. My legs felt quite tired but I got it done. Tough 2 km.

Day 26

Monday 26th Jan

Day 25

Sunday 25th Jan
Would've liked to go for a solo run but Sky cried her heart out so she had to come along. She was desperate to run faster so we did a little off-lead running and she had a great time, was very well behaved, but got so mucky she needed a wash when we got home. Highlights of this run also included seeing some badminton friends and a little boy dressed as Thor at the Bancroft Roman Villa.

Day 24

Saturday 24th Jan
Splits for today's 5km run.

Day 23

Friday 23rd Jan
A quick morning run with Sky.

Day 22

Thursday 22nd Jan
A really enjoyable run!

Day 21

Wednesday 21st Jan
An unintentional 5 km run tonight because I got a little bit lost in Heelands! Could've stopped and checked my phone maps but opted for a bit of adventure trying to figure out where I was.

Day 20

Tuesday 20th Jan

Day 19

Monday 19th Jan
Had planned to run a slow and comfortable 5km. It felt so comfortable that I ended up running 11km! Feeling fit and quite proud of myself today.

Day 18

Sunday 18th Jan
Family emergency took up most of the day. Almost forgot to run. Feeling better for having done it.

Day 17

Saturday 17th Jan

Day 16

Friday 16th Jan

Day 15

Thursday 15th Jan

Day 14

Wednesday 14th Jan

Day 13

Tuesday 13th Jan
Having a bad day. Feeling grotty. Forced myself to go for a walk by lunchtime. Tricked myself into going for an evening run. Essentially ran in a straight line - uphill out, downhill back. Got cheered on by some teens which helped - even if they were taking the piss I laughed and thanked them.

Day 12

Monday 12th Jan

Day 11

Sunday 11th Jan
2 kilometers turned into a longer one today. Running to Deftones album kept me going! Weather not too bad and happy the ice has gone. Feeling strong.

Day 10

Saturday 10th Jan
A slightly treacherous 5km run today. Very icy. Afterwards played ball with a dog and had a big hot chocolate. Lovely start to the weekend. ❤️

Day 9

Friday 9th Jan
Took Sky along for a quick 2km run before it got too dark. As much as I didn't feel like it today, the hardest part was getting her to stay still for this picture.

Day 8

Thursday 8th Jan
Soggy run today after work. Dreaming of that treadmill but just had to get it done rain or not. Brought the dog along - we got very wet.

Day 7

Wednesday 7th Jan
Treadmill 2 km run before badminton. Such a good warm-up!

Day 6

Tuesday 6th Jan
Submitted my assignment late this evening and then went for a fast run around the village. Quite nice after staring at a screen all day - kept me warm too. Bonus for not slipping on any icy patches.

Day 5

Monday 5th Jan
Used the fancy EGYM treadmill today and handed over control for my 2 km run. It gave me with some serious inclines and surprise speed changes!

Day 4

Sunday 4th Jan
Didn't fancy a cold run outside so did today's 2 km on the treadmill as a nice warm up before playing badminton.

Day 3

Saturday 3rd Jan
A very cold 5 km run!

Day 2

Saturday 3rd Jan
A cautious 2 km as the ground was so icy and slippy.

Day 1

Thursday 1st Jan
Officially starting today, I hope to run at least 2 km a day for the whole of January. I’m excited but also a little apprehensive. Some days may be harder than others - mentally and/or physically. Here’s to not getting injured and raising some money for a good cause.

Treadmill run

Tuesday 30th Dec
2k walk yesterday, 5k treadmill run today.

Wasn't really in the mood for this one

Sunday 28th Dec

Chilly 5 km

Saturday 27th Dec

Boxing Day - slow and steady start!

Friday 26th Dec
Although this challenge begins in January, I'm hoping to get this habit off the ground before then.
