I’m running 50k in September for families facing baby loss
I’ve committed to running 50k in September for every much-loved baby sadly not here today.
Anyone who knows me at all knows I'm not a runner by any stretch so this will be quite a challenge for me but for something so close to home I couldn't possibly not try!
For those who know our story, this challenge makes sense. And for those who don't our darling daughter is only lighting up our worlds every day because of the magic and wonder that is IVF! My husband and I sadly lost three pregnancies before this.
Since embarking our journey to grow our family we have been touched by so many people reaching out and sharing their stories.
So this is for everyone I know that has suffered baby loss. Whether you have miscarried, your baby was born sleeping or you are still out there fighting every day to grow your families too. And everything in between!
Sands ensure that everyone affected by the loss of a baby gets the support they need and deserve when facing the toughest of times. They campaign for change, provide training for midwives and healthcare professionals, and support research so that fewer babies die and so that less families experience the tragedy of losing their baby. Anything you are able to donate means so much.

💛 Running for Hope: Supporting SANDS Through 50km in September
Monday 1st SepI’m running 50km throughout September to raise money for SANDS, the charity that supported my husband and me through the most heartbreaking time of our lives.
I’m not a runner. The last time I ran more than 250 metres in one go, my heart rate hit 191 bpm! So this challenge is not just physical but it’s deeply emotional.
Our journey to grow our family began in 2020. After months of trying and undergoing all the tests, we were told we had unexplained infertility, a diagnosis given when no clear cause can be found. This affects around 30% of female infertility cases and 50% of male infertility cases.
In January 2021, we began IVF and were overjoyed to fall pregnant after our first embryo transfer. But at our 6-week scan, we were told there was a sac but no heartbeat. My body still believed I was pregnant, and I had to undergo a D&C... alone, due to COVID restrictions.
After recovering, we tried again with a frozen embryo transfer. Just days before our next scan, I woke with cramping and experienced a fast, heavy miscarriage.
Our third transfer involved implanting two embryos to increase our chances. Sadly, we experienced a chemical pregnancy, a very early miscarriage that occurs when an embryo implants but stops developing before it can be seen on an ultrasound.
Each loss was devastating. But through it all, SANDS provided resources, support, and comfort. Thanks to charities like SANDS, I was also able to access funded counselling through our clinic, something I truly needed to begin healing.
So I'm attempting run. Not because it’s easy, but because it matters.
I run for the families who’ve felt this heartbreak.
I run for the babies who never got to be held.
I run for hope.
