I’m taking part in Sands Starlight Walk

I’m taking part in Sands Starlight Walk as I want to help those affected by the loss of a baby to find the light in the dark. Every day 13 babies die before, during or shortly after birth. I am raising funds to help Sands continue to build a world where more babies survive, and more families receive the happy ending they deserve.

Please sponsor me and help Sands create a legacy of hope and comfort, showing the world how much every baby is loved.

Starlight Walk is a sponsored walk where hundreds of people come together to walk under the stars to remember their babies and raise funds for Sands. If you’d like to join me on this challenge, you can sign up here http://www.fundraising.sands.org.uk/starlight-walk Starlight Walk events take place across the UK or you could choose to take part virtually at a location of your choice.

On the darkest of nights, the stars shine the brightest.

Car Seats

Friday 5th Sep
Four weeks ago today I was standing in the entrance foyer of the Borders General Hospital waiting for a lift home. A man walked passed me, looking rather tired but excited and hopeful, with an empty baby car seat clutched under his right arm.
I text my fiancée saying 'I've just seen me in 6 months time.' I shared his excitement for welcoming our baby into the world in January 2026.
Fast forward to today and I collected my daughter, Eva Grace O'Connor. The only difference was that I walked into Coop Funeralcare and walked out clutching a white paper bag, with a neat bow holding a white box which contained the most precious of cargo; the ashes of my daughter.
I should have been walking out of hospital with a baby in a car seat, instead I walked out of a funeral directors with ashes in a bag 🥹 🧡.

Heartbreak

Friday 5th Sep
11:38pm on Monday 11th August 2025, the time our lives changed forever as we sat in the Eildon Room at the Borders General Hospital, to be told that our baby no longer had a heartbeat.
We were 16+5 days, had been scanned 3 times and all was looking fine. In fact, at the 12 week scan baby was measuring at 13 weeks, so you begin to relax. We had told family, friends and colleagues, our three girls were told of the news and had began to get excited about being big sisters. Now none of that was going to happen, our lives would have a hole in it forever.
You hear about miscarriage and the statistics, but never expect that it will effect you, especially after a promising 12 week scan.
