I’m running 2k a day in January for families facing baby loss
I’ve committed to running 2k a day this January for every much-loved baby sadly not here today.
Sands ensure that everyone affected by the loss of a baby gets the support they need and deserve when facing the toughest of times. They campaign for change, provide training for midwives and healthcare professionals, and support research so that fewer babies die and so that less families experience the tragedy of losing their baby. Anything you are able to donate means so much.

Wednesday 31st DecThis January I’m joining the thousands of others who are running a minimum of 2km every day for Sands 💛
It might not sound like a huge distance, but for me this isn’t about kilometres or pace — it’s about awareness, remembrance, and support.
This run is deeply personal. It comes from our own loss, our IVF journey, and from walking alongside friends, family, colleagues and more recently patients, who have experienced miscarriage, stillbirth, and neonatal loss. It’s for the babies who are never forgotten, and for the parents who carry that loss quietly every day.
In the UK alone:
- Around 250,000 miscarriages are reported each year — 1 in 5 pregnancies
- There are an estimated 100,000+ miscarriages that go unreported every year in England alone
- In 2023, there were 4,478 baby deaths in the UK
– 2,545 stillbirths
– 1,933 neonatal deaths (ONS, 2023)
These numbers are heartbreaking — and behind every one is a family, a story, and a lifetime of love.
