I’m running 2k a day in January for families facing baby loss

I’ve committed to running 2k a day this January for every much-loved baby sadly not here today.

Sands ensure that everyone affected by the loss of a baby gets the support they need and deserve when facing the toughest of times. They campaign for change, provide training for midwives and healthcare professionals, and support research so that fewer babies die and so that less families experience the tragedy of losing their baby. Anything you are able to donate means so much.

Thank you.

Why im doing this ...

Wednesday 17th Dec
This January, I’m tasking myself a simple but meaningful challenge: to run 2km every day throughout the month in support of Sands, the baby loss charity.

As a neonatal nurse specialist, I have the privilege—and the heartbreak—of supporting babies and families at the very beginning of life. While many days are filled with hope and progress, there are also moments of profound loss. Baby loss is something no parent ever expects, yet it affects thousands of families every year. The impact doesn’t end in the hospital; it stays with families for a lifetime.

Sands exists to ensure that no family has to face this journey alone. They provide vital support to bereaved parents, fund research to reduce baby deaths, and work tirelessly to improve care and understanding around pregnancy loss and neonatal loss.

Running 2km a day may seem small, but it’s intentionally steady and consistent—much like the support Sands offers. Some days the run will feel easy; other days it will feel hard, especially in the cold, dark days of January. But every step is a reminder of the families who have had to endure far more difficult journeys than a daily run.

This challenge is my way of turning movement into meaning. Each kilometre represents remembrance, compassion, and hope for better care, better research, and better support for families experiencing the unimaginable.

If you’re able to support my challenge, whether through a donation, sharing this post, or simply taking a moment to learn more about Sands, it would mean so much. Together, we can help ensure that bereaved parents are met with understanding, kindness, and the care they deserve—and that fewer families have to experience this loss in the future.

Thank you for reading, for supporting, and for helping me run with purpose this January.
