I’m taking part in Sands Ribbon Run

On 30th July, we turned up to our 16 week midwife appointment expecting to hear our baby's heartbeat for the first time, to hear only silence. We went to the RUH for an emergency scan, to have it confirmed that our Baby Sky stopped growing at 13 weeks, after only just seeing them healthily moving around at our 12 week scan the week before.

We went home to wait 48 hours, knowing my baby was inside me with no heartbeat. On 1st August 2024, I went back to hospital and gave birth to my Baby Sky. I got to see and hold my baby before saying goodbye for the last time. I have never felt heartbreak like it, and I hope you never do.

Baby Sky should be here, growing inside me. A sibling for Albie to love, play with and guide through life; a child for us to watch grow, develop a cheeky personality like Albie. But now all I have is my imagination of what could have been. There isn't a day that I don't think of them, and my heart breaks a little more. Sands charity provides wonderful support for families like us, who just do not have the strength to go on.

I've decided to attempt to walk 5km a day (where Albie allows!) in October to acknowledge Baby Loss Awareness Week. 5km for the 31 days in October, so we're looking at 155km give or take.

By sponsoring me, you are helping Sands break the silence around baby loss and to continue to save babies’ lives.

£3 - could provide a Sands birth certificate for a baby whose birth cannot be registered through a register office.

£10 - could provide a hand and footprint kit to help create memories.

£20 - could provide a bereaved family with a memory box to help create and keep safe precious and lasting memories of their baby.

£35 - could answer a call from someone reaching out for support who has been through pregnancy loss or the death of a baby.

£100 - could help ensure every hospital in the UK has a dedicated Sands volunteer to help healthcare professionals access our training, guidance and support.
