I’m running 2k a day in January for families facing baby loss
I’ve committed to running 2k a day this January for every much-loved baby sadly not here today.
Sands ensure that everyone affected by the loss of a baby gets the support they need and deserve when facing the toughest of times. They campaign for change, provide training for midwives and healthcare professionals, and support research so that fewer babies die and so that less families experience the tragedy of losing their baby. Anything you are able to donate means so much.
Thank you.

Reasons to run
Tuesday 23rd DecPregnancy and baby loss affects more people than many realise, yet it remains one of the most silenced forms of grief. For those who experience miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal loss, or ectopic pregnancy, the impact doesn’t end when the medical care does.
This event matters because it creates space for acknowledgment, remembrance, and support — and because too many people are left to navigate loss alone.
Ectopic Pregnancy: A Hidden Emergency
Ectopic pregnancy is a life-threatening form of pregnancy loss that requires urgent medical care. These pregnancies cannot continue, and without timely treatment can cause severe internal bleeding and long-term health consequences.
Alongside the physical danger, ectopic pregnancy brings sudden grief, fear, and trauma. Many people are discharged from hospital still in shock, with little time or support to process what has happened.
Supporting Care Beyond the NHS
NHS staff work tirelessly to care for those experiencing pregnancy complications and loss, often under intense pressure. Early Pregnancy Units and emergency services are increasingly stretched, meaning emotional follow-up and long-term support can be limited.
Funds raised through this event help bridge that gap — supporting charities, peer networks, and counselling services that work alongside the NHS to ensure no one faces loss without support.
Turning Loss Into Support
By supporting this event, you help fund vital services, raise awareness, and create a community where pregnancy and baby loss is met with compassion, understanding, and care.
Because loss deserves recognition — and support should never end at discharge.
