Run 2k a Day in January 2026

My Activity Tracking

I’m running 2k a day in January for families facing baby loss

I’ve committed to running 2k a day this January for every much-loved baby sadly not here today.

Sands ensure that everyone affected by the loss of a baby gets the support they need and deserve when facing the toughest of times. They campaign for change, provide training for midwives and healthcare professionals, and support research so that fewer babies die and so that less families experience the tragedy of losing their baby. Anything you are able to donate means so much.

Thank you.

My Updates

Less than a week to go!

Monday 26th Jan
I genuinely have never felt so much accomplishment and pride, in myself and the community around me.

Not only am i now just under 100km into the month, the target was 62km, but we've raised and hit 3 separate fundraising targets!

So far you amazing lot have sponsored me £318!!!

My original target was £175 which equates to 7 memory boxes. I then raised it to £250 and i thought that was an incredibly cheeky amount to aim for. I hit it in another 24 hours thanks to some truly great colleagues of mine. I then raised it to £300 to have something to still reach for as i ran everyday. I reached that on the 24th of January with still 8 days of 2km to go.

This means that we have raised enough for nearly 13 memory boxes, nearly double the amount i was hoping for.

A huge thank you therefore goes out to Alan, Emma-Jayne, Laurie, Karen, Andrew E, Anonymous, Ram, Scott, Imi, Bex, Sam, Ruth, Denis, Barbara, Penny, Kirsten, Helen and Anonymous.

15 Days down and we're at Half Way!

Thursday 15th Jan
This past week has seen the highest and the lowest of the challenge so far!

From tripping on my dining room rug and popping my knee, to absolutely smashing my £175 fundraising target, raising it again to £250 then smash it again in under 24 hours with another target, this time £300, to be hit hopefully soon. Fingers Crossed!!

I will admit that the last 2 days have been tough. I have had to walk the last 2 nights whilst i try and rest and care for my knee and thankfully i think i am on the mend but i do feel immensely guilty for not running. I feel like i have let myself down a bit but i know if i care for my knee and still hit 2k a day i am keeping myself accountable to the challenge with a higher chance of running again soon and less chance of further injury.

The total distance for the month, if i had of stopped at just 2k a day up till now, is 62km. Today, after only 15 days, i reached 59k. I am so so proud of that.

Another thing i am proud of is how the company i work for has stepped up and surrounded not only myself but also other staff who have experienced pregnancy and baby loss.

I was asked to spend 5-10 talking about my fundraiser in a Framework wide meeting of around 100 people. I spoke about my own journey, the challenge itself and also the incredible support that Sands gives to anyone affected by the sadness and grief of losing a child.

Because of the amazing support i received a support system was created, other parents opened up, men especially spoke about their loses and it was an incredibly powerful experience to be a part of and i am so proud of all that took part in that discussion. We are not alone.

I want to say an incredibly profound thank you to the following people: Anonymous, Andrew E, Ram, Scott, Imi and Karen who joined last weeks donators Bex, Sam, Ruth, Denis, Barbara, Penny, Kirsten and Anonymous, whoever you are. I appreciate every one of you.

Thank you x

7 days completed, 24 to go...

Thursday 8th Jan
 A week completed already!

I started on New Years Day, full of a cold (to which i lost my voice for a few days, which i'm sure was enjoyed by a few of my nearest and dearest) and in minus degree weather. My plan was to just stick to 2kms a day, run to the town Welcome sign and back but i got so much joy out of it i just kept running. So much so i have reached over half way of the original 62km within the month already and i'm averaging just over 4.5km a day instead of just the 2.

I've run through rain and snow, i've run on ice and treadmills. I've seen sunrises and sunsets and the walls of my gym. I love running but this challenge has also given me the time to reflect on my own journey through loss. Running every day to raise money for other families has brought me a lot of peace.

As well as being over my daily target on running, I've nearly REACHED my entire fundraising target. I am now at £157 out of £175 and this is within a week and all down to the incredible support and donations from my friends, family and colleagues.

Therefore a huge thank you goes out to my mum Barbara, Kirsten, Penny, Helen, Ruth, Denis, Sam and Anonymous, whoever you are.

With honourable mentions this week (and probably the weeks to come) to: Natalie, a lovely PT and all round good human, at my gym who has been so encouraging when I've been running in there to get out of the cold. To Shelley and Helen for always being the best cheerleaders and running with me one evening. And finally, to my local ParkRun for always looking surprised when i do actually turn up for once😉but for also being the most welcoming team of volunteers and runners, who send all the consistent kudos on Strava for every run. It might mean nothing to you guys but it means everything to me.

My Why…

Tuesday 30th Dec
A goal I have on my bingo card for 2026 is to raise or donate £500 to charities that mean something to me dearly.

In years gone past I’ve raised funds for The Brain Tumour Charity, Macmillan, various Autism Charities and also Lake District Mountain Rescue. Each one I have personally been supported by; well, except for Mountain Rescue but they do sterling work in our area.

This year however I saw a challenge for Sands and I felt called to take part.

I have never shied away from speaking about the loses Neil and I have faced. We have lost 7 pregnancies and each of our 3 living children are rainbows.

Sands is the UKs leading pregnancy and baby loss charity. A charity that shouldn’t have to exist but every day in the UK 13 babies die shortly before, during or soon after birth and at least 1 in 6 pregnancies like mine end in miscarriage.

No one knows why I lost our children but Sands provides a safe, understanding and caring community for anyone touched by pregnancy or baby loss. Regardless of how long ago it happened.

I’m hoping to raise at least £175 in this challenge but hope for much more. £175 equates to 7 memory boxes for families who have lost their child.

But £36.02 answers a call for someone needing help or £98.37 helps to ensure every hospital in the UK has a dedicated volunteer to help healthcare professionals access Sands training, guidance and support.

Any donation is worthwhile!

Thank you for your support as I run through January for Sands.
