I’m running 2k a day in January for families facing baby loss

I’ve committed to running 2k a day this January for every much-loved baby sadly not here today.

Sands ensure that everyone affected by the loss of a baby gets the support they need and deserve when facing the toughest of times. They campaign for change, provide training for midwives and healthcare professionals, and support research so that fewer babies die and so that less families experience the tragedy of losing their baby. Anything you are able to donate means so much.

Thank you.

WEEK 3 RECAP - 2K a Day in January

Monday 19th Jan
First of all, thank you to the amazing people who have donated so far! After last week's new target was set (£250 up from £175) we smashed it in just a few hours; incredible work everyone!

I found out this week that £200 provides a full day of bereavement care training for midwives and healthcare professionals.

Baby and pregnancy loss can be traumatic and heartbreaking for families, and those on the front line of the health service really do need this training to be able to provide the best possible level of care.  Something easier said than done.

With that in mind, and with this final push towards the end of Jan, I was hoping to hit a new target of £400 - the equivalent of 2 days of this specialist training, so staff know how to best serve people receiving this terrible news.

The running bit.

This week I have been here there and everywhere so the outdoor runs took a backseat.

Monday we knocked 5k off the board on the treadmill, Wednesday we covered some more distance and then Thursday - Saturday we trekked all over Glasgow on foot, hitting 30k steps on Friday (surely there's something in that).

Bit to catch up on in this week, but we're ahead of schedule so should be fine!

Thanks again everyone 💪🏻

SANDS Charity 2K a Day in January - Week 2

Monday 12th Jan
Time to recap week 2 of the January 2K a Day challenge!

But first - I was sent a text from Clare at SANDS this week that gave a bit more context to the impact that your donations have.

£25 provides a memory box to families affected by baby loss. With that in mind and with me tracking at slightly above 2k a day, I wanted to up my target to £250 so we can guarantee 10 memory boxes.

The running bit:
This week I took my running outside!

We had a couple of frosty but otherwise really pleasant mornings, so I took myself around the local playing fields for a few laps.

I also had to take the car to the garage on one morning, so ran back from there... And was met by light hail and freezing wind 😂

Few more treadmill 2Ks boxed off the week.

Thank you all for your donations so far, you helped me reach my original £175 target well ahead of schedule!

Let's reach £250 💪🏻

SANDS Charity 2K a Day in January - Week 1

Monday 5th Jan
Firstly, thank you to everyone who has donated so far! We're already over half way to the initial target of £175, which is awesome!

This first week has been great! Averaging over 2K every day, with the fitbit integration picking up my general distance covered, plus in my training I'm hitting 3-4K on the treadmill a minimum of 3 times a week.

I do need to get out on the road and run outside I think... Feels wrong to do a 2K a day running challenge without running out in the open!

Hoping to get to a Junior Park Run with my eldest one Sunday through January - might save that for the end of the month. Will be nice to get him involved.

Again, thank you all who have donated so far. I hope 2026 brings you all of the happiness and success!
