I’m walking 100K in March for families facing baby loss

I’ve committed to walking 100K in March for every much-loved baby sadly not here today.

Sands ensure that everyone affected by the loss of a baby gets the support they need and deserve when facing the toughest of times. They campaign for change, provide training for midwives and healthcare professionals, and support research so that fewer babies die and so that less families experience the tragedy of losing their baby. Anything you are able to donate means so much.

On Monday 13th May 2024, we received the most heartbreaking news, and on Thursday 16th May, you were gone. 
Going into the 12-week scan, all we tend to focus on is 'the heartbeat'. We don't think about how many other things might be broken or incomplete. 
You had a very severe case of anencephaly; missing most of your tiny brain and the front half of your skull. All three of our expert sonographers confirmed that the omphalacele also detected could be fixed after birth. But, not anencephaly.
We were forced to make the impossible choice: end the pregnancy now, or wait for you to pass away. How on earth could anyone be expected to make that decision? Especially when you had such a strong heartbeat - that's all we had to look out for, right? 
The nightmare lasted a total of 4 days, and after it was done, we came away with a rememberence box, a palm-sized teddy bear, a handful of leaflets, and an empty womb.
I was lucky to have my husband, parents, siblings, in-laws, and friends. Anytime I needed to talk or be held, someone was there with a listening ear and open arms. Not everyone has that. So, any money we raise with 'Sands 100k challenge' will go towards further research and building effective support systems for bereaved parents. You can help make a parent's visit to hell and back a little easier to cope with.
