Sands ensure that everyone affected by the loss of a baby gets the support they need and deserve when facing the toughest of times. 

They campaign for change, provide training for midwives and healthcare professionals, and support research so that fewer babies die and so that less families experience the heartbreak of losing their baby.

Navigating Pregnancy Loss

Friday 28th Feb
This is a photo of me in November 2021, showing my husband my new outfit. I'd chosen this top and these joggers because they looked comfortable, they were good value, but most importantly I had no attachment to them and they could be got rid of at the earliest opportunity. 

This is what I picked out to wear to the surgery which took place two days later, to terminate our baby for medical reasons at 13 weeks. The surgery went well, everyone involved was so kind. My physical recovery took 1-2 weeks. And despite my initial intentions, I didn't get rid of this outfit. 

Thanks to charities such as Sands, Tommy's and Sheffield Pregnancy Counselling Support (SPCS), and the incredible support network around me, I'm able to reflect on our pregnancy losses in what feels like quite a healthy way. Every single person's journey is different, but the constant is the incredible support that these charities provide day in, day out. 

This March I'm raising money for Sands, hopeful that others can find their way through loss using their support and resources which have helped me so much over the past 4 years.
