I’m walking 100K in September for families facing baby loss

I’ve committed to walking 100K in September for every much-loved baby sadly not here today.

Sands ensure that everyone affected by the loss of a baby gets the support they need and deserve when facing the toughest of times. They campaign for change, provide training for midwives and healthcare professionals, and support research so that fewer babies die and so that less families experience the tragedy of losing their baby. Anything you are able to donate means so much.

Thank you.

Honoring Their Memory: A Journey of Hope and Healing After Losing Twin Babies

Friday 29th Aug
Nineteen years ago, I experienced one of the most profound losses a parent can endure: the passing of my twin babies. The heartache was unimaginable, and the journey since has been filled with both sorrow and resilience. Today, as I reflect on those painful days, I want to share my story—not just to remember my little ones, but to raise awareness about the importance of supporting bereaved parents and advocating for the health of infants everywhere.

Losing a child is a grief like no other. When you lose twins, the weight of that loss can feel double. In those early days, I often found myself lost in a fog of despair, struggling to understand why this had happened. The world around me continued to move forward, while I felt stuck in a moment of time that seemed unending.

Through this journey, I learned the importance of support—both in mourning and in celebrating the lives that were. Friends and family played a critical role, but I also found solace in support groups where I could connect with others who understood my pain. Sharing stories and experiences helped me find a path toward healing, reminding me that I was not alone.

In memory of my twin girls I became passionate about advocating for infant health and safety. It’s crucial to raise awareness about the issues that can lead to the loss of babies, including prematurity, congenital conditions, and other health challenges. By supporting organizations dedicated to research and education, we can help ensure that fewer families experience the heart-wrenching loss that I did.

Additionally, I believe it’s essential to create spaces where bereaved parents can share their grief without judgment. Whether through community events, online forums, or local organizations, fostering an environment of understanding can help others navigate their own journeys of loss.

Today, as I honour the memory of my twin babies, I also celebrate the resilience of all parents who have faced similar heartaches. Together, we can transform our grief into action, ensuring that our little ones are remembered not just in sorrow, but through efforts that save lives and provide support to those in need.

If you or someone you know is struggling with the loss of a child—twin or otherwise—please know that it’s okay to seek help. There is strength in vulnerability, and healing is possible. Let us hold each other close, sharing our stories, our hopes, and our memories, ensuring that the love we have for our lost children continues to shine brightly in the world.

Together, we can make a difference.
