I’m running 2k a day in January for families facing baby loss

I’ve committed to running 2k a day this January for every much-loved baby sadly not here today.

Sands ensure that everyone affected by the loss of a baby gets the support they need and deserve when facing the toughest of times. They campaign for change, provide training for midwives and healthcare professionals, and support research so that fewer babies die and so that less families experience the tragedy of losing their baby. Anything you are able to donate means so much.

Thank you.

My Updates

Almost half way through

Wednesday 14th Jan
We're almost half way through the challenge and I've gone out for a run every single day.
Kai even came with me for his first ever run on Sunday! He absolutely smashed it and has asked to join me again, so we'll see what the weekend brings.

These runs have been both good for me and my mental health and at times incredibly hard. Most times I'm just out for the run and focusing on my surroundings, trying to soak up the beauty in nature. Other times I'm sobbing midway through, because I am thinking of the 'should have been's' and the 'what if's'.

My body seems to have adjusted to the daily runs more or less alright - my calves don't feel as tight anymore, my feet don't scream for the whole run.
At the weekends, I even like to do 5-6kms instead of just the 2km.

Today was a hard one. Not because it was a particular date or anything. Just one of the days where grief comes and smacks you right across the face and the pain of the loss feels unbearable in the moment. And then comes the guilt, because "I wasn't that far along yet" and "Others have had way more traumatic losses".

I'm trying to be gentle and kind with myself and remember why I'm doing this challenge. And maybe I'll just need to chat to one of the Sands councillors again myself, too. And that's totally okay.

Thank you all so much for your support and your donations, it truly does mean so much. 💜🧡

Running 2km a day in January for Sands

Saturday 3rd Jan
Having gone through the devastating loss of our much wished and hoped for growing baby sibling for Kai in early December, I've decided to try and do something good this January, and will be running 2km a day for the whole month.

Having been so lucky to fall pregnant with Kai on our first IUI attempt 7 and a bit years ago, we couldn't quite believe it, when we saw the two little lines on the pregnancy test after our second attempt of IUI. We were so excited for 2026 to be the year our little dude would become a big brother. Unfortunately, at only 6 weeks pregnant, I lost that little baby. So few people talk about how physically and emotionally taxing such a loss is, but Sands are a wonderful charity, supporting people going the same grief as us, as well as those dealing with stillbirths or loss shortly after birth.

Every person deserves that support so very much.

If you have a pound to spare, please do consider giving it to Sands. If you don't, that's not a problem either - it's January after all.
I'd love for you to send me song suggestions to make my runs more fun, or join me on an outing, if you'd feel up to it.

And if you've gone through a loss at any point yourself, please know how much space I'm holding for you in my heart. I'll be here to chat, always. 💜
