I’m taking part in Sands Ribbon Run

I’m taking part in Sands Ribbon Run this Baby Loss Awareness Week 9-15 October.

Sands exists to support anyone affected by the death of a baby, before, during or shortly after birth, whenever this happened and for as long as they need support.

By sponsoring me, you are helping Sands break the silence around baby loss and to continue to save babies’ lives.

£10 - could provide a hand and footprint kit to help create memories.

£20 - could provide a bereaved family with a memory box to help create and keep safe precious and lasting memories of their baby.

£35 - could answer a call from someone reaching out for support who has been through pregnancy loss or the death of a baby.

£100 - could help ensure every hospital in the UK has a dedicated Sands volunteer to help healthcare professionals access our training, guidance and support.

My Updates

My reason why

Monday 18th Aug
Back in April, my partner and I found out we were expecting our first child. We were both absolutely ecstatic and so excited to meet our little one. We had so many conversations about what we were looking forward to, and all the lovely things we wanted to do with our little one.

Unfortunately 7-9 weeks in, we recieved the news that our little angel could not grow anymore and sadly gained their wings a lot earlier than we ever wanted or expected. It broke us. It absolutely broke my heart.

Hearing babies crying triggered me and made me cry myself. Seeing babies made me hurt and my mental health took a huge hit.

I was so excited to tell my mum the news that we were pregnant, so much that we went and told her straight after finding out. I love my mum so so much and I knew she would have been the best Nanna ever.

Since this terrible news, myself and my partner have struggled to navigate everyday life and feel a huge part of our lives is missing.

As soon as I recieved the news, I remember talking with my partner that night, and told her I really wanted to fundraise for a charity that supports people in our position.

Myself and my mum had began running for fitness and health, but I noticed the positive effect it was having on my mental health too. It gave me an escape from reality and made me feel human again. I suggested a fundraiser to my mum and her being the absolute legend that she is, agreed it was a good idea and on top of that, agreed to do it with me too!

As a man, watching your partner going through physical discomfort and feeling like you cannot do anything to help is really difficult.  Their is a stigma around men talking about their feelings but I have always believed that being open and honest is so important when you are feeling such strong feelings. I have been so fortunate to have an amazing support network around me from Family, friends and work colleagues too. I am truly greatful for them all and whilst I am still not 100% ok, I am ready to do my bit and help raise money for such an important cause.

Feeling useless and like I could not do anything to help was horrible, but this is my way to take back control and do something special in memory of our beautiful little soul that was taken way too soon.

Forever and always in my heart, this 10k is for you my baby. ❤️
