Walk 100K in September

My target 100 kms

I’m running 100K in September for families facing baby loss

I’ve been a midwife for a lot of years now, and during that time I have met a lot of families that sadly never got to take their beautiful babies home with them.

SANDS is an incredible charity that works tirelessly to provide support to anyone affected by the death of a baby, before, during or shortly after birth, whenever this happened and for as long as they need support.
Many of the people involved in the charity have experienced the loss of a baby themselves.

They work directly with maternity teams to provide training and resources for staff working with bereaved families. They do a huge amount to support and promote research to better understand the causes of baby deaths, improve maternity safety and save babies’ lives. The charity also raises awareness of baby loss and works with governments, key influencers and other stakeholders to make reducing the number of babies dying a priority nationally and locally.

The sponsorship challenge was originally to walk 100k in September, but that didn’t feel like a worthy challenge for such an amazing organisation.

So I’m going to run it.

I haven’t run for a while, so there’s every chance this might kill me, but it really is the very best of causes.

Xx

My Updates

Radio silence explained

Saturday 28th Sep
Huge apologies for my radio silence, unfortunately I was hit with a bout of Covid that knocked me out of my running (or even walking) for the last 10 days. I now have some serious making up to do, but much as I’d love to be able to run 51k in the next 3 days, I think that would finish me off, so I need to face the fact I won’t have run 100k in September as I had planned. So I’m going to bend the rules a little and add an extra ten days onto the challenge to make up for the lost sickness time. I hope nobody thinks I’m cheating! I’m hoping this site will allow me to continue my updates, but I’m not totally sure. Thank you all again for your continued support, and I’m sorry that Covid has altered my plans 😥

Hotel run

Tuesday 17th Sep
Full of cold. Bleugh

Just a quick one!

Sunday 15th Sep
Only a quick run tonight after a pretty yucky 6 hour journey to Manchester. I’m going to have some catching up to do!!

Back in the game

Wednesday 11th Sep
Oooo that was tough after two accidental rest days! I think I really needed them though - my legs were really struggling. I’m now running 2k behind so I have a little catching up to do!

Disco

Sunday 8th Sep
I found a disco ball in the garden after my run today. Feels symbolic, but no idea what it means. Maybe I need to introduce more sparkles into my running wardrobe? I increased my fundraising target to celebrate. Up to 30km total now. Pretty pleased with that.

Week one ✅

Saturday 7th Sep
Week one finished, and I’m officially over a quarter of the way at 26km. My longest run so far at 4.41. Definitely feeling fitter than I have done in a long time. Perhaps a little selfishly and vacuously I can’t deny that I’m a little disappointed I’m not a size 12 yet though!

Passed the 20k milestone!

Friday 6th Sep
And bought some cute new shorts to celebrate 🥳

Day four

Wednesday 4th Sep
I had to skip my daily walk this morning as I think my legs had stopped working! Keeping on running though. I’ve got this (the power of being too stubborn for my own good!!)

Day three

Tuesday 3rd Sep
‘Some runs are harder than others’ (To be sung to the appropriate Smiths tune) Ouch.

Day two’

Monday 2nd Sep
Day two. On track. It hasn’t killed me yet 💙 5k a day by Friday x

And we’re off!

Sunday 1st Sep
I’m not convinced that my Strava app is talking to the page, so I may need to add manually. First official run - felt good. Needed to do 3.33km, but managed to keep going a little longer. Day one done… just another 29 to go!

Getting my run back on!

Friday 23rd Aug
Week one of ‘getting my run back on’ training completed. I have run 13.5k, which isn’t too bad considering I haven’t run properly in such a long time! I’ll need to almost double my daily run in September! I plan to run 3.3k every day, but much definitely feels achievable now. I’m over the moon with the amount of sponsorship I’ve received - thank you all so much. I won’t let you down xxx
