I’m taking part in Sands Starlight Walk

I’m taking part in Sands Starlight Walk as I want to help those affected by the loss of a baby to find the light in the dark. Every day 13 babies die before, during or shortly after birth. I am raising funds to help Sands continue to build a world where more babies survive, and more families receive the happy ending they deserve.

Please sponsor me and help Sands create a legacy of hope and comfort, showing the world how much every baby is loved.

Starlight Walk is a sponsored walk where hundreds of people come together to walk under the stars to remember their babies and raise funds for Sands. If you’d like to join me on this challenge, you can sign up here http://www.fundraising.sands.org.uk/starlight-walk Starlight Walk events take place across the UK or you could choose to take part virtually at a location of your choice.

On the darkest of nights, the stars shine the brightest.

My story

Tuesday 30th Sep
On 14th January 2022 I was 2 days overdue, I had shipped my 2 year old son off to nursery and got on with my day ready for a sweep at 2pm. At 1pm I began to have contractions, I carried on and went to my appointment as normal, although the appointment was far from normal, I walked into the maternity unit thinking I probably wouldn’t be walking out without my baby, instead I was told my daughter no longer had a heartbeat and was then blue lighted to a different hospital. The fight or flight mode kicked in and I became numb, I had to inform my parents and ensure my son was looked after and then had to get on with labour, which looking back gave me no time to digest that my daughter had died, that she had gone from waking me up with her feet in my rib's that morning to going into labour and she no longer had a heartbeat, the turmoil and pain was unbearable and all I wanted to do was keep my daughter inside. After a very quick birth Violet-Rose was born and the bittersweet feelings kicked in, my beautiful daughter that I had grown and nurtured for 9 months was finally here except she wasn’t, she wasn’t here in the way I needed her to be. My arms ached in the days, weeks and months after to hold my baby, to feed her and change her, to watch her big brother absolutely dote on her, every time I left the house feeling like I had forgotten someone. Around a year after Violet-Rose entered our world I came across a  SANDS meeting group and have now formed some amazing relationships with families who understand my own feelings the support is amazing and I wouldn’t be where I am at in my journey without my daughter without the extra support I receive from them. This is why I’m choosing to walk for SANDS and for my daughter, always.
