We’ll always treasure the memory box and the little hand and footprints we made with Rosie. They’re a reminder of how loved she is, and why supporting Sands and 4Louis means so much to us. 💗

🌸 Running for Rosie – Our Sands Ribbon Run 🌸

Hi everyone,

We are taking part in the Sands Ribbon Run this Baby Loss Awareness Week (9–15 October) in memory of our beautiful daughter, Rosie Leigh Slone Thirkle.

It will just be the two of us, Rosie’s mam and dad — running on Saturday 11th October to honor our precious little girl and to help raise awareness and support for other families who have gone through the heartbreak of losing a baby.

On Friday 8th August 2025, just one day after Rosie’s due date, we went to what we thought would be a routine midwife appointment, excited to hear our baby girl's heartbeat before she arrived. 

The midwife became worried when she couldn’t find her heartbeat, and we were sent to the hospital for a double check. 

After another attempt and then a scan, our worst fears were confirmed — there was no heartbeat. Our world shattered that day.

The next day, on 9th August 2025, Rosie was born sleeping. She was the most beautiful little girl — perfect in every way. 

Though she never took a breath in this world, she changed ours forever.

Thanks to the incredible charities Sands and 4Louis, we were able to create precious memories with Rosie. 

They provided us with a memory box, hand and footprints, and special keepsakes we will treasure for the rest of our lives.

 Their support meant we could hold onto moments that mean everything to us now.

By taking part in this run, we hope to raise awareness for babies like Rosie and raise funds to help other families who will sadly face this kind of loss. 

Every donation helps Sands continue their vital work supporting bereaved parents and working to save babies’ lives.

• £10 could provide a hand and footprint kit to help create memories.

• £20 could provide a bereaved family with a memory box to keep precious keepsakes safe.

• £35 could answer a call from someone reaching out for support after pregnancy or baby loss.

• £100 could help ensure every hospital in the UK has a dedicated Sands volunteer to support families and professionals.
