Why

We are completing this Ribbon Run to raise money for an amazing charity who provide support to families going through what can only be described as the worst imaginable times of their lives. 

After a very complicated and confusing start to pregnancy, we had our 20 week scan and everything had started to look like it was turning around, until we hit 28 weeks. My water broke unexpectedly and I was rushed to hospital, they managed to stop labour which meant that the twins had more time to grow as they were too small and it would be safer for them to remain in the womb. After many transfers, scans, tests and nights in hospital i had a pain in my stomach followed by a heavy bleed. I was experiencing a placenta abruption.  I was rushed immediately for a emergency caesarean. Both twins were born and were taken to special care. 
Brody was the larger twin and needed less support but Rory needed much more help so had to be transferred to a specialist NICU at a different hospital where unfortunately he passed away only 25 hours after being born. 
Not a day goes by where we don't think about him, his brother and sister talk about him and he will always be remembered with love. 
The need for a charity such as SANDS is huge in a time like this, it allowed us the space, time and information we needed to process what had happened and support us in what was to follow. 

We’re taking part in Sands Ribbon Run

We're taking part in Sands Ribbon Run this Baby Loss Awareness Week 9-15 October.

Sands exists to support anyone affected by the death of a baby, before, during or shortly after birth, whenever this happened and for as long as they need support. 

By sponsoring us, you are helping Sands break the silence around baby loss and to continue to save babies’ lives.

£10 - could provide a hand and footprint kit to help create memories.

£20 - could provide a bereaved family with a memory box to help create and keep safe precious and lasting memories of their baby.

£35 - could answer a call from someone reaching out for support who has been through pregnancy loss or the death of a baby.

£100 - could help ensure every hospital in the UK has a dedicated Sands volunteer to help healthcare professionals access our training, guidance and support.
