Back in September 2005 we were so looking forward to becoming parents to our second child. Devastatingly, we received the news at our 20 week scan that there was no detectable heartbeat, and our beautiful baby Ava was born sleeping a few days later.
Unfortunately, our heartbreak did not end there. The following year, another of our beautiful baby girls, Erin, passed away after a short time in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Heartbroken and deeply traumatised by the loss of two daughters, we reached out to Sands (Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Charity). They stepped in with amazing support, comfort, and vital advice to help us navigate a completely new and altered future.
Along with our other amazing children, Ava and Erin remain at the absolute center of our family and our hearts every single day. While we cannot celebrate Ava's landmark 21st birthday with her here, we are channeling our love, memories, and physical energy into this race. Side by side, we will tackle every single kilometer run and all workout stations with our two girls in mind for every single rep.
We are raising money directly for Sands to give back to the community that held us up. Your generous donations help ensure that other grieving parents and families receive the exact same lifesaving guidance, memory boxes, and counseling networks when their world turns upside down.

Sunday 13th Sep
We are so fortunate to be members of an incredible gym who provide Hyrox training sessions at least 4 times weekly. I want to add here that we do not do 4 training sessions a week! 😂 However, we do try to fit in 2 a week alongside our other training commitments including Les Mills grit strength, body pump heavy, circuits and a personal one for me is Zumba 💃... (Mark usually does a spin class or extra Hyrox training when I do this class!)
I think I speak for both of us when I say we found exercise to be a brilliant mental release but, we are grandparents now and we also want to be the fittest and strongest we can be for our children and our grandchildren to hopefully grow very old while still maintaining the ability to be active and independent with them-this is the ultimate goal! 
Our bodies have sustained a few injuries along the way-training can be gruelling and recovery is just as important to reaching the target so we are always trying to find the balance. 
Having said all of  this, training for this Hyrox challenge with a brilliant trainer and great group of people is strangely something we look forward to 😂 and of course, we have pulled each other through some of the toughest times of our lives so we can do this. Marking Ava's special birthday gives us that extra purpose and push that we need.
