I’m taking part in Sands Ribbon Run

I’m taking part in Sands Ribbon Run this Baby Loss Awareness Week 9-15 October.

Support me as I take on 5, 10 or 15km in support of Sands, helping them to continue to build a world where more babies survive and more families receive the happy ending they deserve.

Ribbon Run is a sponsored run, walk or jog where thousands of people come together to remember their babies and raise funds for Sands. It’s free to sign up and it’s up to you how you take part. You can run it, walk it, push it, or jog it; alone or with friends and family.

By sponsoring me, you are helping Sands break the silence around baby loss and to continue to save babies’ lives.

£3 - could provide a Sands birth certificate for a baby whose birth cannot be registered through a register office.

£10 - could provide a bereaved family with a support pack and resources when they need it the most

£10 - could provide a hand and footprint kit to help create memories

£20 - could provide a bereaved family with a memory box to help create and keep safe precious and lasting memories of their baby

£35 - could answer a call from someone reaching out for support who has been through pregnancy loss or the death of a baby.

£100 - could help ensure every hospital in the UK has a dedicated Sands volunteer to help healthcare professionals access our training, guidance and support.

Progress ….but unprepared?

Wednesday 18th Sep
I have finally completed Couch to 5k and have also completed a park run….twice!
I’m feeling really pleased with myself about that!
I have reflected that there a couple of things I wasn’t prepared for: I don’t run fast so there was a time difference in the actual 5k of park run and my presumed 5k using the app!!! I have also been running on lovely long countryside paths and the park run does have grass/uneven sections which my knee does not love! I was also unprepared for running with other people….this did mess with my head a little but what I did like about park run is how supportive everyone is! I’ve also struggled a little to get back into routine having taken a month off over the summer.
So, this week…knee support ordered, scale back the time I’m running for a bit but get back to 3x weekly sessions. Should be good to go again by 12th October!!!!! ☺️

What SANDS did for me…

Tuesday 3rd Sep
Returning home from hospital without your baby isn’t something you prepare for, the impact on me was quite significant. Not having Isaac with me, took its toll and I found that leaving the house on my own, increasingly difficult.
My SANDS befriender understood the reasons behind my reluctance and was one of the first people I ventured outside with. She encouraged me to take short walks as often as I could. She was by my side during difficult conversations with neighbours who would ask after the baby and the uncomfortable reactions that would follow when they heard the news.
My SANDS befriender also put me in touch with my lifelong ‘sad mums’ E and M (you know who you are!). I will forever be connected to these amazing ladies without whom I’m not sure how I would have coped.
The SANDS befriender service was essential to my bereavement journey; Isaac’s story wouldn’t be complete without them.

Getting Started!

Tuesday 27th Aug
Download the Couch to 5k Mum, you can do it! Said my son….so I did! Boy was it hard in the first sessions. I started about 12wks ago but I have to say I was surprised by how quickly I was running in short bursts…I never thought it was possible 😅 at about the same time, I read a SANDS promotion about the Ribbon Run during Baby Loss Awareness Week and I thought….I can do that! My lovely sister has also been roped in so you might see us out training in the coming weeks! 💙
