I’m hosting a Starlight Walk for Sands

I’m hosting a Starlight Walk for Sands as I want to help those affected by the loss of a baby to find the light in the dark. Every day 13 babies die before, during or shortly after birth. I am raising funds to help Sands continue to build a world where more babies survive, and more families receive the happy ending they deserve.

Please sponsor me and help Sands create a legacy of hope and comfort, showing the world how much every baby is loved.

Starlight Walk is a sponsored walk where hundreds of people come together to walk under the stars to remember their babies and raise funds for Sands. If you’d like to join me on this challenge, you can sign up here http://www.fundraising.sands.org.uk/starlight-walk Starlight Walk events take place across the UK or you could choose to take part virtually at a location of your choice.

On the darkest of nights, the stars shine the brightest.

Our Boy 🦁🌻

Monday 4th Nov
We are doing this walk for our baby Boy Spencer who gained his wings at just 7 days old.
Spencer was born 6 weeks early by emergency c-section Monday 19th August 2024 at 10:48am. He got sent straight up to NICU on CPAP. Later that evening we was told an air pocket developed on the outside of his right lung and that a drain would have to be inserted.
The next morning he had gotten sicker and would need to be transferred to another hospital. It took the transport team over 12 hours to get him stable. Central lines had been put in along with a ventilator, IVs along with adrenaline and chest compressions. When he was finally stable enough we made the transfer to a different hospitals NICU.
We was at the new hospital for 5 days where Spencer had more chest drains fitted, blood tests, new type of ventilator and more medications .
On Sunday 25th August we was told anyone who would want to see Spencer would do it now. We got Spencer baptised there in hospital in his incubator. Doctors at the hospital had spoken to AlderHey where they had accepted Spencer to see if he would be able to go on echmo.
Sunday night the transport team came to get Spencer again and make the transfer to AlderHey, we arrived there very early hours in the morning of Monday 26th August.
When we got there our baby boy was able to be in a big boy bed on a heated mattress. He was still attached to machines but we got to see I’m out of an incubator. He looked to peaceful and settled even tho still being in critical condition. Me and Josh was able to stay in one of the parent rooms on the ward that night until Ronald McDonald house was ready for us.
Later that morning one of the doctors there had a talk with us to say echmo was not an option as he’s was so poorly, we needed to take it hour by hour.
An hour later we got told that they had done all that they could do and that care had to be withdrawn.
Finally getting to hold Spencer properly the team there helped us do bits of memory making while one of the doctors hand ventilated Spencer until he took his last breath at 12:45.
