I’m jogging 31 miles in May for families facing baby loss

I’ve committed to jogging 31 miles in May for every much-loved baby sadly not here today.

Sands ensure that everyone affected by the loss of a baby gets the support they need and deserve when facing the toughest of times. They campaign for change, provide training for midwives and healthcare professionals, and support research so that fewer babies die and so that less families experience the tragedy of losing their baby. Anything you are able to donate means so much.

Thank you.

Preparation

Tuesday 29th Apr
Hi everyone,

So with one day left ahead of this challenge, I just want to thank you so much for the donations that have been made so far since setting this page up! The response has been incredibly overwhelming.  I originally hoped to achieve £200 but I’ve doubled that now thanks to all you wonderful people.

To help gain momentum to keep the page going and the donations coming in, please can I ask every single one of you to share this with your friends, family and colleagues so they can consider sharing the love!

THANK YOU 🩷💙🩷💙

#OneDayToGo

Target Hit 🎆

Monday 28th Apr
£200 is enough to provide a full day of bereavement care training for midwives and healthcare professionals, making sure they can offer the best possible care to vulnerable families facing the worst of tragedies.

Half Way There!!

Monday 28th Apr
Guys I’m so overwhelmed by the response I’m getting, thank you so much!! Half way there and raising £100 means that five families could receive a memory box, allowing them to create special memories for their baby such as foot prints and hand prints which are kept as a reminder by most parents to remind them of their little one.

LETS KEEP GOING!!! 🩷💙

My Introduction

Sunday 27th Apr
Hey Everyone 👋

Thank you for visiting my page and taking the time to read about my experiences.

My story can be found distressing as it’s very detailed - this is just an FYI.

My Story begins at the age of 25, I found I was pregnant, it was never planned and a total shock to me and my partner. After the initial shock, the news made us happy and was the perfect fit. We were saving for a deposit at the time to buy our first home together and we had enough to start our property search. Of course learning we had a little one on the way didn’t leave us with much time as we were living with his parents at the time, but we found our perfect home and started the buying process. Adjusting to life as a mummy to be, I started to take all the vitamins required and start to be careful in what activities I partake in.

At 6 weeks into the pregnancy, I was at work and noticed that I started to bleed so I went into sheer panic. I left work and called my partner and we went to the hospital to have a check up. They explained that due to how early into the pregnancy I was, they couldn’t scan me and told me to go on bed rest for two weeks. Understandbly, this did not satisfy our concerns so my mum paid for us to have a private pregnancy scan where at the time I was 7 weeks. They explained to us that no heart heart could be detected and usually at that stage one can be, so they told us it was a unviable pregnancy which means that they are unsure if baby is alive or not. One Friday night, I told my partner I didn’t feel right, so I went to bed early and fell to sleep. I woke up around midnight where I had started to contract and was in a lot of pain, I went to the toilet and the blood was pouring from me and when I wiped myself, what I saw on the tissue was what made me realise we had lost our little bundle of joy. After waking my partner up and calling my mum to take me to hospital, I went to sit back on the toilet so the blood has somewhere to go, at that point our little bean decided to enter the world and to my dismay, landed in the toilet. Right away, the pain stopped and I told my partner that the baby had passed, without looking I knew right away what had happened due to the feeling I had. My partner and I stood looking in the toilet whilst we waited to be picked up to go hospital looking at our baby, we could see where the little fingers and toes had started to form, an image that will stay with us forever.

Finally, my mum come to collect us and we had no other choice but to flush our baby which still haunts me to this day. We went to hospital and I stayed over night and had a scan on the Monday confirming it was a miscarriage.

8 years on, we have been fighting that loss by trying to replace it with a child and yet, been unsuccessful and currently preparing for our IVF journey as I’ve been diagnosed with PCOS.

My story encouraged others close to me to tell me about their losses, I then learnt to find out my own mum had miscarriages, my mother in law, my sister in law and one of my best friends had to experience 5 before getting her two little miracles! It was at that moment I suddenly  realised how common this is and that me and my partner wasn’t on our own.

I know first hand what it feels like and I would like to help those through and let them know it’s okay to feel that way and there are support services available to you to help you get through what feels like the worse time of your life. You’re not alone!

So I take on this challenge for myself, my mother, my mother in law, my sister in law and one of best friends. This is for you and all those around the world that have experienced baby loss.

Any donations no matter how big or small could made a huge difference to those in need!

Thank You
