I’m taking part in Sands Ribbon Run

I’m taking part in Sands Ribbon Run this Baby Loss Awareness Week 9-15 October.

Support me as I take on 5, 10 or 15km in support of Sands, helping them to continue to build a world where more babies survive and more families receive the happy ending they deserve.

Ribbon Run is a sponsored run, walk or jog where thousands of people come together to remember their babies and raise funds for Sands. It’s free to sign up and it’s up to you how you take part. You can run it, walk it, push it, or jog it; alone or with friends and family.

By sponsoring me, you are helping Sands break the silence around baby loss and to continue to save babies’ lives.

£3 - could provide a Sands birth certificate for a baby whose birth cannot be registered through a register office.

£10 - could provide a hand and footprint kit to help create memories.

£20 - could provide a bereaved family with a memory box to help create and keep safe precious and lasting memories of their baby.

£35 - could answer a call from someone reaching out for support who has been through pregnancy loss or the death of a baby.

£100 - could help ensure every hospital in the UK has a dedicated Sands volunteer to help healthcare professionals access our training, guidance and support.

Ribbon Run (a week later!)

Saturday 12th Oct

Next weekend I am going to take part in the Ribbon Run to raise money for Sands. Sands is a charity which supports people affected by baby loss at any time during their pregnancy, or at birth or after birth. Money raised will go towards research to help improve our understanding of baby loss and ultimately save more babies, as well as support services for bereaved families.

9-15th October is baby loss awareness week (BLAW) and Sands and other charities including Tommys will be hosting a number of events to support this amazing cause.

On Saturday 12th October the Ribbon Run is being run all over the country to raise money for Sands. Due to other plans this weekend I am going to do my ribbon run next Saturday.

On the 15th of October at 7pm there will be a Wave of Light to remember all babies who have died too soon.

Please support myself and others affected by baby loss and donate what you can to this amazing cause.

If anyone would like to join me at Congleton Parkrun on Saturday 19th October, see you there at about 8.45! This will be my first full 5k running since Isaac was born.

Our story

Saturday 12th Oct

We are so blessed to have Isaac in our lives, now 6 months old he has made our life complete. Sadly we lost two babies during early pregnancy previously, which resulted in some really tough times for myself and Chris. The questions over why this had happened and what this meant for our journey to have children remained unanswered and we sought support anywhere we could, including resources online from charities such as Sands, Tommys and the Miscarriage Association. You can find out more about the important work they do here:

https://www.sands.org.uk

People were always amazed that I kept running during pregnancy (to about 30 weeks) but honestly it was one of the few things that got me through pregnancy after loss which was so tough mentally, never truly believing that we would actually hold our baby until we had Isaac in our arms.  Running allowed me to switch off and give me another focus when all I could think about was our baby.

I’m really glad to be back to running, it feels good to be back after 2.5 years of being very inconsistent following both ankle and foot fractures as well pregnancy.  It can be hard to find the time but it’s been good to have this event to focus on!
