I’m walking 100km in March for families facing baby loss

As many of you know, we lost our beautiful baby boy, Seb, 6 weeks ago.

This was when I first heard about Sands. I was handed one of their memory boxes in the hospital, these are given out to parents when they loose a baby. It included two teddy bears. One of the bears I kept with me and the other I put into Seb’s cot with him whilst we were in hospital. When we had to say goodbye to him I switched the teddy bears so that Seb’s was with me and mine was with him. I cuddled that teddy as much as I cuddled him, so he had all the love possible from me next to him and that helped me believe he wasn’t alone when we had to leave him.

Sands will always mean so much to me for this alone, as we didn’t have anything for Seb at hospital as we didn’t know that I was going to go into labour and deliver him. So those teddy bears meant we got to leave something with him and we got to bring the one that had been next to him home with us to cherish forever. Sands gave me such comfort because of what I was able to do with those two teddy bears so I would love to give back to them.

When I heard about the ‘Walk 100km in March’ fundraiser I thought this is the perfect opportunity to give back. I know walking doesn’t require the most endurance but 100km is a big commitment for me both physically and mentally right now. I would be so grateful if anyone could donate to Sands to help support bereaved parents like me!

If you read this and can’t donate then please do me a favour and just take time to have a look at the sands website and make yourself more aware of what baby loss is and means. The baby loss world is a whole new universe that needs a lot more attention and understanding from everyone. Me included! The only reason I’m aware of the depth of the layers of it is because it’s happened to me. I had no clue either before all of this, but my god it is heartbreaking and affects so many people. So, the more we can be educated on it, the better chance we have at breaking the taboo around it! Thank you xx

Thank you so much to everyone who has been so generous, your donations are going to help so many bereaved families.

Just a little update from a personal point of view, getting up and out, on a walk everyday has helped my mental health so much and I know I wouldn’t have committed to this if I hadn’t signed up to this fundraiser, so thank you once again to Sands, for helping me in more ways then one. This challenge has been a godsend for me in the toughest of times.
