31 Miles in May - My Story
Tuesday 29th AprThis is a hard post to write.
In the month of May I will be running 31 miles (50k in May) to raise money for the charity 'Sands' because I am '1 in 5'.
Very recently myself and Neil suffered a missed miscarriage of a very wanted pregnancy. This has been a heartbreaking time with so many emotions and questions.
It's estimated that 1 in 5 recognised pregnancies ( 20%) end in miscarriage.
Whilst navigating everything in my head, I remember asking a nurse at the EPU when I could start running again. Lo and behold, I stumbled across this Charity fundraiser.
Pregnancy/ baby loss is more common than we think, but it is such a taboo subject to discuss. But we SHOULD be able to talk about it. Talking has played a huge part in aiding my recovery as well as having amazing support from the family and friends who knew what had happened.
I will be running to raise funds for 'Sands' - they are a fantastic charity who offer a safe place for anyone affected by pregnancy loss or the death of a baby so that you don't have to navigate such a dark time on your own.
Any amount that you are able to contribute will be so greatly received and will go towards an amazing cause.
Half of adults in the UK have experienced pregnancy or baby loss, or know someone who has.
Since my own experience, I have been shocked to come to realise how common it is.
For anyone out there who are going through/ have gone through this awful time, please reach out for support. You absolutely are not on your own 🤍.
