I’m taking part in Sands Starlight Walk
I’m taking part in Sands Starlight Walk as I want to help those affected by the loss of a baby to find the light in the dark. Every day 13 babies die before, during or shortly after birth. I am raising funds to help Sands continue to build a world where more babies survive, and more families receive the happy ending they deserve.
Please sponsor me and help Sands create a legacy of hope and comfort, showing the world how much every baby is loved.
Starlight Walk is a sponsored walk where hundreds of people come together to walk under the stars to remember their babies and raise funds for Sands. If you’d like to join me on this challenge, you can sign up here http://www.fundraising.sands.org.uk/starlight-walk Starlight Walk events take place across the UK or you could choose to take part virtually at a location of your choice.
On the darkest of nights, the stars shine the brightest.

My friends heart breaking experience 🩷🩵
Sunday 27th OctOn 5 August 2023 our beautiful twins Nola weighing a tiny 445g and Niko 580g were born at 23 weeks+6. I became seriously unwell with a rare type of Preeclampsia called HELLP SYNDROME, this was completely terrifying as I was told by doctors I was hours away from dying as all my organs were starting to shut down and the only way to save all 3 of us was to deliver our babies by an emergency c section.
When the twins were born they were transferred straight to the neonatal unit at Wishaw general hospital where they both had to be ventilated to help them breathe. I wasn't allowed to see my babies for 48 hours as I was still very sick and my only way of seeing them for the first time was over a FaceTime by Scott I couldn't believe how perfect they looked so beautiful and perfectly formed. All the doctors kept telling us how lucky we were all to be alive. They both fought so hard until on 29th August Nola took an infection and her little body couldn't take anymore. We had to hold our baby tight cuddle her in our arms and say goodbye to her it was the most harrowing time of our lives saying my final goodnight to my baby girl. The only thing pulling us through and keeping us strong was our boy Niko, but unfortunately the very next day after Nola passing Niko started to deteriorate very quickly as if he knew his sister was gone, twins do have a special connection a bond like no other. He then had to be transferred to the Queen Elizabeth hospital in Glasgow to receive surgery where he fought on for another 3 weeks. On 19 September our worst nightmare was happening again being told that Niko had had enough and couldn't take anymore suffering so there we were for the second time holding our baby boy in our arms saying goodbye, a pain like no other and something that a mum and dad should never have to go through. To loose one baby is hard enough but to have 2 babies taken from you after being wanted for so long is just so cruel. Our only comfort was knowing they were back together again, they entered this world together and shall leave together. Scott and I are truly heartbroken and miss our darling babies so much.
losing Nola & Niko has been the most devastating thing that has ever happened to us. We might not be able to physically parent the way we dreamed and imagined by cuddling our little babies every day but by doing any kind of fundraising we can do is our way of being the best mummy and daddy to our twins and keep Nola & Nikos legacy alive.
Between Wishaw and Glasgow neonatal unit where the twins both had care we seen how important these units are for pre term and very sick babies. Scott and I spent every hour of our days there and watched our babies receive the most incredible care. By doing any kind of fundraising we can do will hopefully help other babies like Nola & Niko.
With every step we take, and with every pound we raise, you are helping us create a legacy of hope and comfort, showing the world how much every baby is loved.
