I’m taking part in Sands Starlight Walk

I’m taking part in Sands Starlight Walk as I want to help those affected by the loss of a baby to find the light in the dark. Every day 13 babies die before, during or shortly after birth. I am raising funds to help Sands continue to build a world where more babies survive, and more families receive the happy ending they deserve.

Please sponsor me and help Sands create a legacy of hope and comfort, showing the world how much every baby is loved.

Starlight Walk is a sponsored walk where hundreds of people come together to walk under the stars to remember their babies and raise funds for Sands. If you’d like to join me on this challenge, you can sign up here http://www.fundraising.sands.org.uk/starlight-walk Starlight Walk events take place across the UK or you could choose to take part virtually at a location of your choice.

On the darkest of nights, the stars shine the brightest.

Grace 💟

Tuesday 15th Oct

On the 21st August 2020 after keeping us waiting 2 weeks over her due date our beautiful first child was born a precious daughter. Grace Nan Forsyth - named after both our grans. Grace took her first breath let out a cry and then things turned very wrong extremely fast. An alarm was pressed and our birthing room swarmed with doctors and nurses. I got one quick hold of my baby and she was rushed right out of my arms away from Dean & myself. That feeling I can’t explain. No idea what’s going on a totally unexpected outcome after a ‘green go’ pregnancy no concerns no extra checks nothing to prepare us for this tragedy.  The next time we got to see Grace was in NICU her little body covered in wires and a breathing apparatus on lying in the little bed so poorly. So unfair - the excitement and wonderful precious feelings of your baby been born snatched away from us and a worrying uncertainty replaced. Our parents were able to join us even in the midst of covid when hospital numbers were strict they were able to come in and visit their granddaughter a time where it should of been a lovely special moment between us all to experience took from us. But I was thankful they could be with us and were allowed to stay with us to be a support which they greatly were as myself and dean were so scared at the age of 26 & 25 we definitely needed our mums & dads more than ever. After a short while in NICU a doctor met with us and explained they didn’t have the equipment to help Grace and to give her any slight chance of survival they needed to transfer her to Glasgow Queen Elizabeth Hospital NICU but myself nor Dean could travel with Grace as it was a specialist team who would be moving her and it came with even more of a devastating blow when they informed us that they didn’t know if Grace would be strong enough to make the journey to the hospital. The feeling of having to say your goodbyes to your baby you have only given birth to a few short hours before hand incase you didn’t get to see them alive again just shatters your heart forever. Grace began her journey to the Queen Elizabeth. Myself & dean following behind her escorted in a police car. And our parents followed us. When we got to the hospital and Grace was still with us it was simply amazing the feeling of relief that came over us the delight the positive feeling that this little warrior isn’t giving up was what we needed a little glimmer of hope. However sadly life doesn’t always work out the way you want and need it to. And after 3 days of not leaving hospital and being by our baby girls bedside our little Grace passed away - totally unexpectedly. Our lives changed forever a truly unbelievable feeling that still makes me feel physically sick. Our beautiful baby girl it makes me so sad she didn’t get to come home with us. Leaving the hospital without your baby coming home to a house that has everything laid out a nursery ready for them clothes hanging to put on the pram good to go for their first walk. Simply heartbreaking they’ll never be words to explain that awful feeling. Losing a child goes against the natural order of things as a parent you shouldn’t have to organise your child’s funeral. Life can be so cruel. As a mother the most important thing for me is for Grace to never be forgotten we speak of her all the time and her two little sisters will always be brought up with Grace around them she was the one who made us proud parents she changed our life forever and touched so many peoples hearts in her short time on earth. She was the most perfect little girl and I will have a broken heart for the rest of my life. Grace you will never ever be forgotten my darling we love you forever our precious shining star x
